Graduation 2015
It is that time of the year again - our graduation for Year 7 and 8's! This year we are having it slightly early on the 8th December. It is a evening where you and your parents come along to have a dance or few!
This year the girls need to bring a plate that is savoury - sausage rolls, sandwiches, cheese and crackers etc and boys need to bring a sweet plate - cakes, slices, chocolate treats etc.
Any questions around the night please come and see Miss Wilson, Mr Spicer, Mrs Horan or Mrs Corrigan.

MAKE A WISH DAY 23RD OCT
This Friday we are participating in Make A Wish day. We get to dress up in anything we want to be..maybe a fairy, an astronaut, a nurse or a superhero. Your gold coin donation will go toward the MAKE-A-WISH foundation that grant wishes for Kiwi kids who are living with life threatening medical conditions.
I look forward to seeing what we are dressed like

Our parachute challenge!!
Room one have been working hard over the past week creating parachutes which reduce the effects of gravity. The challenge was to design and create a parachute that would bring their lego man slowly to the ground.
Today each group tested their finished parachutes and we timed their fall to see which group created the most efficient parachute!
Here is our winning group! Hayley, Freya and Kaitlyn's parachute fell to the ground in 2.64 seconds!

Reducing Gravity
This term we are learning about what makes thing move, we have started looking at Newton's Laws of Motion and gravity.
Our rich task over the last few Inquiry sessions has been making parachutes to reduce gravity. We were allowed to use plastic bags and string. We are all using lego men so our 'people' are the same. On Wednesday we will have a class challenge to see which group's parachute work the best.

MYtime
In Room 1 every Wednesday we have MYtime - this is a time where Room 1 students get to learn what they want to learn about. They plan out how to spend their time, there is a outcome at the end and they monitor how they are going against the outcome.
This term we have outcomes like: learning to code, sewing a dress from scratch, baking, building a model car from recycled materials, becoming better soccer players, improved basketball skills and photography to name a few.
We will share our outcomes in our blogs later on this term.

TO MINE OR NOT TO MINE? WHAT IS YOUR OPINION?
Last Friday the Senior Syndicate spend the day in Waihi exploring into mining. We spend time at the Newmont Education centre with Phillip panning for gold, making slide shows, finding facts and learning about underground mining.
We also went on a bus tour with Murray learning about tailing, the future of the mine and looking down at the open pit mine.
Our third activity was at the new Gold Discovery Centre where some students experienced drilling, entered the ghost theatre and spent time at the different displays around the centre.

Foyer Display
When you come into the school foyer you will see Room 1's Art work on display. It is only a selection of our Art work - we can't fit everybody's in the space.
We took two photos of the same pose and put them together. Around the outside of our photos are things that we like!
